Education has been a problem in our country and lack of it has been blamed for all sorts of evil for hundreds of years. Even Rabindra Nath Tagore worte lengthy articles about how Indian education system needs to change. From colonial times only few things have changed. Rote learning still plagues our system, students study only to score marks in exam and sometimes to crack exam like IIT JEE, AIIMS OR CLAT. If there are few centers of educational excellence, for each of these there are thousand of mediocre and terrible school, colleges and now even universities that do not even meet minimum standards. In our country millions of students are victim of unrealistic, pointless, mindless rat race. Mind numbing competition and rote learning not only crushes creativity it drives students to commit suicide.
Our education system rarely rewards what deserves highest acamedic accolades. Deviance is discouraged. Risk taking is mocked. We Should recognise original contributions in the form of creativity, problem solving, valuable original research & innovation. The goal of our new education system should be to create enterpreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinker and writers who can establish the formation of knowledge based economy and society. Goal of education should not only be seeking a good job but to serve and change the society at large.
